Rituximab therapy for hepatitis C virus‐associated cryoglobulinemic membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis

Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis associated with mixed cryoglobulinemia is the most common form of kidney disease observed in relation to hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Rituximab, a monoclonal antibody against CD20, is an effective treatment for severe and/or refractory HCV-related vasculitis and may evade the need for dialysis as in our patient.

Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis associated with an Epstein–Barr virus infection

Type 1 membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) is an immune complex-mediated disorder that has been associated with certain viral infections including hepatitis C, hepatitis B, hepatitis G, HIV and Hantavirus. We describe a patient with type 1 MPGN in native kidneys and nephrotic syndrome in whom there was strong evidence that a primary Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection played a causat...

Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis Associated with a Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection

Type 1 membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) is an uncommon manifestation of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated renal disease in patients coinfected with hepatitis C virus. We report a case of MPGN characterized by nephrotic syndrome associated with HIV without hepatitis C coinfection. The patient had a favorable response to highly active antiretroviral therapy and angioten...

Delayed spontaneous resolution of nephrotic syndrome in a patient with hepatitis C virus-associated membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis

Treatment with antiviral and/or immunosuppressive therapy is considered the standard care in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN). However, even with an adequate therapy, a favourable response is not always guaranteed. In patients with HCV-associated MPGN, a delayed spontaneous remission of nephrotic syndrome is rare. We present here o...
